Information for 1098-T Hope Scholarship and Life Time Learning Credit
In accordance with Federal Regulation section 1.6050S-1 "Tax Relief Act of 1997", qualified institutions can either choose reporting method, "Qualified Tuition and Fee Charges Paid" or "Qualified Tuition and Fee Charges Billed". The reporting method used must remain the same for all calendar years unless IRS grants permission to change the reporting method.
NSU elected the "Qualified Tuition and Fee Charges Billed" reporting option. This is located in Box 2 of the 1098-T form. SCT Banner software that houses the Student Records for the University supports the "Qualified Tuition and Fee Charged Billed" reporting option.
Per the "Instructions for Student", section of information on the 1098-T form. The amount reported in Box 2 might differ from the amount actually paid for qualified tuition and fee for the calendar year. Please consult your tax accountant or the IRS about differences in the amount actually paid and amount reported in Box 2 "Qualified Tuition and Fee Charges Billed", for personal tax preparation.
