You Can CREATE a Difference

NSU CREATE is harnessing the university’s research and clinical resources to provide wraparound services that will help survivors heal and move beyond their traumatic experiences to achieve a self-sustainable life.

With your support, we can reach our goals more quickly. As the only coalition of its kind in the State of Florida, NSU CREATE can:

  • Florida is 3rd in the nation for human trafficking across the U.S.
  • An estimated 21 million children, women and men are caught in the cycle of trafficking worldwide, with 80% of trafficking victims women, and up to 50% are children
  • There are between 100,000 – 300,000 sex trafficking victims under 18 in the U.S. per year.
  • 12 years old – the average age of entry into the sexual exploitation industry, with some as young as 9 years old
  • Total yearly profits generated by human trafficking are $32 billion – Specifically, trafficking for sexual exploitation generates $28 billion per year
  • Human trafficking is the fastest growing and 3rd largest organized criminal activity, behind only drug and arms trade

Donations of in-kind items such as new clothing or toiletries are in high demand. If you are interested in donating such goods, please email us at create@nova.edu.

ADDED BENEFITS:

Through gifts of appreciated securities:

  • You may be able to avoid capital gains tax. Any gain is taxable if you sell stock or mutual fund shares yourself, but not if you transfer ownership to the University.
  • Your charitable deduction for federal income tax purposes is based on the full, fair market value of the shares on the date the gift is made.
  • You receive credit from the University for the full, fair market value of the shares, but the cost to you is only your original purchase price.

Leaving a legacy for future efforts to help survivors is a meaningful way to give that can provide tax benefits and even income. Legacy gifts may come from a simple bequest through a will, a beneficiary of a trust, a beneficiary of a charitable gift annuity, or as a beneficiary of a life insurance policy or retirement account.
