Opinio Survey Software System Procedures and Guidelines

General

The Opinio survey software system has been licensed by NSU for use in conducting a variety of online surveys for academic, research and administrative purposes. The system is specifically made available to faculty for the purpose of conducting surveys linked to courses they teach, and to administrators for the purpose of conducting surveys related to the business of the university. At this time, the system is not directly available to students. However, surveys may be conducted on behalf of students by the faculty. Full-service OIT support is available to develop, conduct, and provide reports for academic and administrative surveys. Here are the currently defined survey development scenarios:

Academic Surveys

Option 1: Opinio Account Is Not Required
NSU Faculty members desiring to conduct online surveys for academic purposes may contact the OIT Innovation Zone (IZone). The faculty member will provide survey content to the IZone. The IZone will create the survey, make it available to respondents via links within the corresponding WebCT class, and deliver survey result reports to the faculty member. In this scenario, the faculty member does not need to manage an Opinio account.

Option 2: Opinio Account Is Required
NSU Faculty members may request an Opinio account to develop academic course surveys. The faculty member will register for the account online. Faculty members will review the Opinio web documentation and are strongly encouraged to attend the IZone Opinio training course. All academic units are encouraged to consult with NSU’s Office of Institutional Effectiveness in the development of surveys of students and other constituencies. In this scenario, faculty members self-manage the entire survey process with the support of the IZone if needed.

Administrative/Research/Other Surveys

Option 1: Opinio Account Is Not Required
NSU departments desiring to conduct online surveys for administrative purposes will coordinate requests with their departmental Web Information Provider (IP). The IP will contact the OIT WebTeam for assistance via email. The IP will provide survey content to the WebTeam. The WebTeam will confer with the IP, create the survey, create links to the survey from appropriate web locations, process survey invitations, produce and deliver survey result reports to the IP. In this scenario, the user does not need to manage an Opinio account.

Option 2: Opinio Account Is Required
In special cases where an employee's job function requires survey development/administration, and departmental approval is granted, the employee will complete an online registration form to request an Opinio account. Employees will review the Opinio web documentation and are strongly encouraged to attend the Opinio IZone training course. All administrative units are encouraged to consult with NSU’s Office of Institutional Effectiveness in the development of surveys of students and other constituencies. In this scenario, the employee will create and manage the entire survey process independently of WebTeam support.

Administrative Account Approval Form

In special cases where an employee's job function requires survey development/administration, the department director or college dean may approve an employee to have access to the Opinio Survey software system to create and maintain surveys.

In addition to the Opinio Account Request Form, the following form must be printed and completed by the employee and director/dean then sent via inter-office to OIT before the account is created.

The employee and director/dean should review the Opinio Survey Software System guidelines that were agreed to when requesting the Opinio account.
