Frequently Asked Questions
Families, friends, and the general public are cordially invited to attend commencement. Tickets are not required but seating is limited and large groups of guests wishing to sit together should arrive early.
The arena doors open one hour prior to the published start time of the ceremony for both candidates and guests. Because seating is limited, plan accordingly.
Be aware that the arena doors will temporarily close to guests during the opening processional and the playing of The Star Spangled Banner, and reopen afterwards on a space-available basis.
Please Note: Due to the size of the Arena at the Don Taft University Center and as a courtesy to all candidates and their guests, the saving of seats is strictly prohibited.
Complete a Letter for Requesting Visitor's Visa for Graduation Ceremony prior to contacting the Office of International Students and Scholars (OISS) at (954) 262-7240 for a letter of invitation for family members wishing to attend commencement. Family members should present this letter to the U.S. Embassy when they apply for B1/B2 visas–the visas used for short-term business or pleasure visits to the United States.
If a candidate wishes to invite more than one family member, the OISS must be informed if one letter will suffice or if separate letters are needed for each family member. It is the candidate's responsibility to mail these letters to family members.
Important: Please note that requesting a letter from the OISS does not guarantee that a relative will receive a visa. The issuance of a visa depends on the additional requirements each country's embassy may have at the moment of requisition and is at the sole discretion of the issuing embassy.
