Frequently Asked Questions

Diploma

No. At that time you will receive a certificate of congratulations when you are called to the stage and announced as a candidate for graduation. To receive an official diploma, if you have not already received one, you must go online and complete an Application for Degree/Diploma.

An Application for Degree/Diploma can be obtained online. To access the online Application for Degree/Diploma, you must first read these important instructions.

The application should be completed and submitted with the appropriate fee no later than the last semester in which your program will be completed.

All program requirements must be completed, all grades must be officially posted on your academic transcript including transfer of credit/s, and all obligations (tuition and fees paid, library books returned, equipment returned, bookstore obligations met, etc.) must be satisfied in SharkLink.

If your address changes after you have applied for your degree, you must update your mailing address in SharkLink and also email the Coordinator of Degree Conferrals and Diplomas at diplomas@nova.edu. This will expedite the degree conferral process, and as such, facilitate smoother processing on your behalf. Not providing a correct address will result in delaying receipt of your diploma and could result in an additional fee.

Application for Degree/Diploma is first approved by your academic program office and submitted to the Office of the University Registrar for conferral. The date on which all academic requirements were met appears on the transcript; however, NSU uses the last day of the month in which it is approved by the program office as the official degree conferral date, which appears on the diploma and transcript.

Even though a student may have completed all graduation requirements and received grades prior to the end of a term, it is the end date of the term and not the last day of class that determines the month a degree is conferred.

The Office of the University Registrar will still confer your degree, but your NSU transcripts and diploma will be held until all money owed has been paid in full via NSU eBill. For additional payment information or questions, please contact the Bursar's Office by email at bursar@nova.edu or by phone at (954) 262-5200.

You will receive notification to your NSU email address informing you when to expect receipt of the diploma. It will take several weeks from the conferral date to receive delivery of your diploma package. Please allow additional time during the larger conferral months of April, May, August, and December. Be advised that we cannot ship to a P.O. Box or APO/FPO address. Not providing a correct address will result in delaying receipt of your diploma and could result in an additional fee. If your address changed after you applied for your degree, you must update your mailing address in SharkLink and also email the Coordinator of Degree Conferrals and Diplomas at diplomas@nova.edu. Should you find any discrepancies with your diploma, immediately email us at diplomas@nova.edu.

For framing purposes, the size of an NSU diploma is 11” x 14”.

Nova Southeastern University’s longstanding policy is to have only one diploma extant. A replacement diploma can be provided upon the submission of an online Request for Replacement Diploma.

All NSU replacement diplomas are provided in the current format and measure 11” x 14” in size. Replacement diplomas display the signatures of present-day university administration but show the original date of conferral. The notation “Diploma Re-Issued” appears at the bottom-right corner of the replacement diploma.

A $30 payment, per copy, must accompany your request. Any replacement requests will not be processed until all outstanding financial obligations to the university are satisfied. Please allow two weeks for receipt of a replacement diploma.

NSU acknowledges that many of our students choose to set their preferred names for use within internal university systems. However, it is important to note that, at this time, legal names will be utilized on diplomas, commencement programs, and transcripts.
