Master of Health Science
Health Law Concentration
This concentration is offered through a partnership with our NSU Shepard Broad Law School. It is designed for allied health professionals who want to be introduced to the legal aspect of healthcare. For many, this knowledge is vital in today's health care environment.
All MHS courses are delivered and organized as distance learning.
For the Health Law concentration, 1 residential institute is required on the Fort Lauderdale campus. Summer institute is 1-2 days long.

| MHS 5003: Current Trends and Cultural Issues in Health Care This course serves to familiarize the student with current and cultural issues in health care that may impact the patient, the health care system, as well as the ability to deliver high quality health care. Discussion and analysis of current trends and cultural topics facing those who work in health care will be explored. |

| MHS 5205: Writing for Medical Publication Study and review of quality medical writing techniques, issues, and procedures with emphasis on cultivating personal style and content. Focus will be on writing for peer and evidence based publications. |

| MHS 5501: Epidemiology and Biostatistics The ability to understand the conceptual and practical aspects of biostatistics and epidemiology in health care is critical to understanding research and analyzing population data about disease. This survey course will improve the ability of the student to understand and apply these concepts. |

| MHS 5510: Research Methods This course is designed to enable participants to develop skills in reading and critically evaluating published research using the scientific model. The advantages and disadvantages of quantitative and qualitative research methods will be compared and contrasted. Research articles will be collaboratively analyzed to develop an appreciation of potential methodological problems and their implications for evidence based professional practice. |

| MHS 5530: Principles of Management in Healthcare This course will discuss the various principles of management and its associated issues as they relate to the modern healthcare professional. The course will explore topics such as concepts of organizational management, decision making, strategic planning, resource management and allocation, conflict, and the concept of power. |

| MHS 5107: Internship The student will complete 80 hours of internship in an area of interest within a healthcare organization, outside of their regular places of employment. The final product of this internship is an in depth S.W.O.T. analysis of the unit or healthcare organization. The internship site requires prior M.H.Sc faculty approval. |

| MHS 5207: Practicum The practicum is a cumulating experience for M.H.Sc. Students. Under supervision of an M.H.Sc. faculty advisor, students will develop community- based, health promotion and disease prevention interventions with underserved and/ or non-traditional populations. |

**Please note that students in this track fall under the following course schedule. Students varying from that schedule may run into financial aid award difficulties and will fall out of sequence sequence for the health law courses, affecting timeframe for completion.
Students in this track should consider themselves in a locked-step schedule. In order to be eligible for financial aid, a student must be enrolled for a minimum of 3 credits per term.
