The faculty and staff of the Anesthesiologist Assistant Program - Ft. Lauderdale at Nova Southeastern University (NSU) extend a warm welcome to the members of the 2015 incoming class of Master of Health Science Anesthesiologist Assistant students. As the Associate Chair of the Department of Health Science overseeing Anesthesiologist Assistant studies, I would like to congratulate you on your acceptance and admission to our program. You have taken the first steps in your pursuit of a fulfilling career in anesthesia at Nova Southeastern University. The faculty and staff are committed to providing you with the finest resources as well as the best learning opportunities possible.
We are looking forward to working with your class in a collaborative effort that will culminate with your graduation as Anesthesiologist Assistants. The goal of the Anesthesiologists Assistant program is to prepare students for lifelong learning and leadership roles that will benefit the healthcare community. The educational process will be committed to training and educating competent anesthetists who will embrace the anesthesia care team to provide safe, quality and compassionate anesthesia care of all degrees of illness for the surgical patient.

Please be sure to purchase the required flash cards for the Medical Terminology course (ANES 5048) as soon as possible and begin studying for your exam which is scheduled sometime in the middle of July. This is an independent study course.
Terminology Flash Cards
To better prepare you for your entrance into the AA program, please review the "Introduction to Anesthesia Booklet" and "Anesthesia Mediation Sheet" to familiarize yourself with the common medical abbreviations, terminology, and medications used in the practice of anesthesia.
Please note that you will NOT be registering for summer courses. The program personnel will be completing your registration prior to orientation to ensure timely disbursement of financial aid.
You will be required to join three anesthesia organizations that support the Anesthesiologist Assistant profession. Please fill out the two that are provided by the American Society of Anesthesiologists and American Academy of Anesthesiologist Assistants. The third application, from the Florida Society of Anesthesiologist Membership, will be provided to you at orientation. The applications and the fees will be collected the first day of class.
