"I Give Because NSU Has Given Me So Much."
To South Florida native, Michelle Merida, NSU was a beacon of opportunity. "I have a close family friend who has worked at the university for a long time. She told me that NSU was the ideal environment to work and further my education."
In 2008, she decided to apply for a position with the university. Today, she works at the College of Optometry's Eye Care Institute as an Administrative Assistant to Dr. Linda S. Rouse, COO. "NSU has become my second family," Merida says proudly.
Now a marketing major enrolled in the H. Wayne Huizenga School of Business and Entrepreneurship, Merida aspires to move forward and grow with NSU. She says, "I hope that my marketing degree will leverage even more career opportunities at NSU. I can honestly say that I see myself working here forever."
This year, Merida decided to support NSU's Faculty/Staff Giving Campaign. She thought to herself, "NSU has given me so much, why wouldn't I give back?" She continues, "Every day, I look around and I see that NSU strives for excellence. Whether it is academics, athletics, or through our involvement in the community. In giving, I want to be part of that success."
Merida also appreciates that the campaign allows her the freedom of choice. Not only could she choose the amount of her gift, but also the area where her gift would make an impact. "I have so much pride in where I work. It made perfect sense for me to support the College of Optometry." For faculty and staff considering support of the campaign, Merida advises "find the area closest to your heart."
