Shana and Brena Bergman

WHEN SHANA AND BRENA BERGMAN'S father unexpectedly passed away, the two sisters, who feel such a strong affinity for a school they have attended since kindergarten, faced the possibility that they wouldn't be able to return.

"The very first day we came to University School, we felt like we were part of a family. From the personal attention from teachers to the pep rallies, we love our school."

With financial assistance and the support of their teachers, the sisters returned to University School in the fall. "It gives us goose bumps to know our teachers, the headmaster, and donors care and believe so much in us."

Their passion for community service is evidenced by their leadership as secretary and vice president of Jewish Family Services' Teen Board. They have helped Holocaust survivors and rebuilt homes devastated by Hurricane Katrina. They also tutor fellow University School students."

Getting that call over the summer, learning we could return to University School, changed our lives. We promise to make a difference, at this school and in the community."
