Eric Ackerman, Ph.D.
Interim Dean and Associate Professor, Graduate School of Computer and Information Sciences
Circle of Friends Board Member, Alvin Sherman Library, Research and Information Technology Center
Eric Ackerman began contributing to the NSU Fund several years ago. Not only that, his commitment to his employer and alma mater motivated him to serve as Chair of NSU's Faculty and Staff Campaign.
"Due to the payroll deduction option, I find it very easy to continue to give." He continues, "There are so many areas to support. Any contribution to the university - no matter how large or small - is a great way to show your support to NSU."
Having earned his bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees from NSU, Ackerman is one of the university's most vocal supporters. "As a graduate, I'm proud of my education and thankful for the experiences I have had and continue to have here at NSU," he says. Ackerman states that it was a "natural progression" to remain connected to his alma mater and seek employment.
Today, he serves as the interim dean of the school that provided him with such a rich educational experience. He also gives back some of that knowledge and the skill set he earned by teaching computer and information science courses.
"Regardless of the level at which it's offered, education is something that opens doors," says Ackerman. "Ultimately everyone has the ability to learn, but I consider it my responsibility to help others, so one day they may help themselves."
Looking back on his NSU experience, Ackerman states, "I am fortunate to have had the ability to grow and learn from past deans and university leaders. I have also seen tremendous development in terms of the campus and its infrastructure. I like to think I was part of that success."
Contributing to the NSU Fund is just one of those ways the university can continue to reach great heights. "The NSU Fund does a great job supporting the initiatives of the University," says Ackerman. "I strongly believe that financial gifts can help move our university into the future."
