Student Internship / Co-op Procedures
The Internship/Co-op Program is a planned progressive educational
program that provides for the integration of a student's academic
studies and relative work experience in a professional environment.
The Internship/Co-op Program is a three-way partnership between
the employer, the student, and the University. In order for the
program to be successful, there must be a clear understanding of
the role of each partner, as well as a firm commitment to the program.
NSU's Internship/Co-op Program adheres to the parallel model of
part-time work and full-time study.
- Visit your academic advisor to make sure you are eligible
to participate in the internship/co-op program
- Students need a cumulative GPA of a 2.5 or higher.
- Students must have completed a minimum of 36 academic
credit hours.
- Students must agree to work 10-20 hours per week
during a 16-week semester.
- Students must apply and be approved to participate
in the internship program one semester before they begin to get
full credit.
- Students can participate in an internship a maximum
of two semesters
- Once you are approved to participate
in the Internship/Co-op Program by your advisor, take the Co-op/Internship
Request form to Career Services.
- Career Services must approve and sign-off
on your Internship/Co-op site.
- If you do not currently have an Intership/Co-op
site, Career Services will assist you in this process
- The Internship/Co-op position must be related to
your field of study
- Effective Spring 2002, students cannot hold an
Internship/Co-op position within an organization that they are
currently employed with.
- Students may not use work-study employment as intern/co-op
site.
- Once your Internship/Co-op position
has been approved, you will be referred back to your Advisor
for assignment of a faculty sponsor.
- The following documents must also be turned into the
Office of Career Services
- Student Mid-Semester Evaluation
- Employer Mid-Semester Evaluation
- Student Evaluation
- Employer Evaluation
- A copy of your final report
