Welcome to the Nova Southeastern University Clinic of Excellence for Pediatric Hearing Healthcare. We are dedicated to serving your child’s hearing needs. Finding out that your child has a hearing loss can be an extremely overwhelming and confusing experience for families, and the faculty and staff at the Clinic of Excellence are focused on making things easier for you. A reaction many parents have to the news that their child has a hearing loss is to stop speaking, singing, and cooing to him or her. This is a normal reaction, but a child with a hearing loss needs everything a child with normal hearing needs. He or she needs your smile, gestures, talking, playing, and responding to his or her moods, actions, and noises. Children with hearing loss actually need to be surrounded by additional language and sound so that they can build awareness and identify patterns to eventually make sense of it. Most of all, keep in mind that your child is a child first, and a child with a hearing loss second. This website was created specifically to give you access to resources and information you may need. While this website is not completely comprehensive, it serves as a good starting point to aid you during your beginning steps of this process. It is extremely critical for you to stay informed and educated during this often trying time in yours and your child’s life. While it’s normal for you to be experiencing a range of feelings and emotions, it is essential for you to take action as soon as possible.
