Pauline Grant

Chief Executive Officer, Chief Support Officer

“My job is to remove obstacles so that the employees and physicians have the resources and latitude to provide excellent care for the patients and their families” says Pauline Grant, M.S., M.B.A., F.A.C.H.E., CEO of Broward Health North Broward Medical Center.

“People in healthcare are in the field because they want to make a difference.  This is an emotionally demanding business that can lead to burnout when staff becomes frustrated because of lack of necessary resources/equipment.  I want to help keep the fire burning and their passion alive.”

Grant (M.B.A. ’82) is equally passionate about her love of healthcare.  It began during her undergraduate studies at the University of the West Indies in Jamaica.  She graduated with first class honors and continued her education earning a Master of Science degree in nutrition and community health.  Her early career involved working for the government of Jamaica and the World Health Organization focusing on malnutrition and under nutrition.

She later emigrated to the United States to pursue an M.B.A. degree and advance her career in healthcare. One of her earlier positions - which proved to be a source of great experience - was with the Seminole Tribe as a health planner and director of three clinics on four reservations.  This position gave her the necessary experience to take on more challenging responsibilities with the Broward County government running their primary care clinics. The North Broward Hospital District subsequently took over management of these clinics which brought her into the fold of the “District” and eventually to the position of Chief Executive Officer, North Broward Medical Center.

During the eleven years she served the Seminoles, Grant enrolled in the executive M.B.A. program at Nova’s Business School (now the H. Wayne Huizenga School of Business and Entrepreneurship). “With every step of my career, I’ve developed transferable skills that I could use along the way. The M.B.A. degree helped tie all this knowledge together.”

“Healthcare is a challenging and exciting environment. With the recent healthcare insurance reforms, focus on quality health care outcomes and high patient satisfaction, patients are back at the focal point and that keeps me motivated as a health care provider. We can’t forget that our patients are the most important people in the equation-they and their families. If we do right by them, we are doing right in our jobs. My role as CEO of North Broward Medical Center is to work within Broward Health to make sure that we are achieving our patient-centered goals.”

When not involved with the Medical Center or the several community boards of which she is an active member, Grant is an all round sports enthusiast - a diehard Miami Dolphins fan plus a big fan of professional tennis.  She loves to travel and is a veteran ocean cruiser.  Grant has two grown daughters and two grandchildren.
