Women's Rowing Team Hosted Their Annual Alumni Dinner
Saturday, October 17th: the women’s rowing team hosted their annual alumni dinner in the Commons Banquet Hall. Earlier in the day, a race was held between the current team and the alumni. |

NSU Volleyball Featured "On The Record"
On Saturday and Sunday, October 24th and 25th, the Nova Southeastern University volleyball team was featured on BECON-TV in an episode of "On The Record" called Shark Attack.

NSU Men's Soccer Tames Saint Leo Lions, 3-2
The NSU Soccer team hosted The Great Whiteout against Saint Leo on Saturday, October 24th. Fans came in all white to show their support for Shark soccer and the Make A Wish Foundation. The team clinched a spot in the Sunshine State Conference Tournament with its win. |

Rebecca Bratter, J.D. ’03, attorney at Greenspoon Marder, P.A., was recently elected to the board of directors for March of Dimes in Broward County. While at NSU, Bratter was an executive board member of the Moot Court Honor Society. She is currently a member of the Broward County Bar Association’s Young Leaders Section, the Broward County Association for Women Lawyers and the Young Leaders Division of the United Jewish Community of Broward County. Bratter is also a volunteer teacher at A Children’s Carousel school in Weston, Fla. |

George Brown, M.S., ’00, is working to get back into the Ph.D. program at GSCIS to complete his doctoral degree. |

Joanne Charles, J.D. ’03, recently joined the law firm of Greenspoon Marder, P.A. as an associate in the growing commercial and civil litigation practice areas. During her time at NSU, she was a Goodwin Fellow and served as editor-in-chief of the Nova Law Review. She also participated in the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot as a brief writer, oralist and a team coach. Charles is a member of the American Bar Association and former board member of the T.J. Reddick Bar Association. |

Joan M. Cook, Ph.D. ’99, of Yale University is the recent recipient of a National Institute of Health (NIH) grant. The grant addresses a proposed topic for NIH “Strategies to Support Uptake of Interventions within Clinical Community and Setting.” The grant will implement two evidence-based psychotherapies for treating post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) among veterans. The research team will characterize and assess the implementation of Prolonged Exposure Therapy and Cognitive Processing Therapy within the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs’ Residential PTSD Treatment Programs. Dr. Cook and colleagues will collaborate with the Northeast Program Evaluation Center, monitoring all VA mental health programming and patient outcomes, and the National Center for PTSD, overseeing the dissemination of PE and CPT nationally among VA providers. |

Cindy Hanchey, Ph.D. ’95, and her husband Dale have recently retired from Oklahoma Baptist University. Dr. Cindy Meyer Hanchey served as Ernest C. Wheeler associate professor of computer science. She was active in many professional groups and consulted for the National Science Foundation and other organizations. She taught courses including information technology, programming and ethics. She also taught information technology at OBU’s International Graduate School in Oklahoma City. The Hancheys successfully helped build OBU’s technology base while expanding their personal knowledge of computer science. |

Todd B. Heimowitz, D.O., ’99, has joined the Columbia University Division of Cardiology at Mount Sinai Medical Center and the Heart Failure Center at Mount Sinai Aventura. Board certified in interventional cardiology, cardiovascular diseases, adult echocardiography, nuclear cardiology and internal medicine, Dr. Heimowitz is the only osteopathic interventional cardiologist in Broward and Miami-Dade counties. Dr. Heimowitz is actively involved in teaching NSU medical students and osteopathic internal medicine residents at Mount Sinai. His areas of research include the investigation of new devices and medications to treat heart failure, medications for the treatment of coronary artery disease, and stem cell therapy for patients who have had heart attacks. Dr. Heimowitz, who did his internal medicine residency as well as fellowships in cardiology and interventional cardiology at Mount Sinai, has offices in both Miami Beach and Aventura. |

| Chris Kehl, B.S. ’96, and wife Jill Kehl, recently welcomed the birth of their daughter Brooke Elizabeth on August 24th. Chris is a member of the Atlanta Alumni Chapter and was the 2008 keynote speaker at their annual Business Networking Event at the Fox Grill. |

Ken Newberger, Ph.D. ‘07, has just published his first book, “Hope in the Face of Conflict.” It is a ground-breaking book, born out of a Western worldview, that introduces the Judeo-Christian Model of Peacemaking. This model has a wide range of applications and cutting-edge relevance to life in the 21st century. As a conflict resolution consultant, Ken specializes in working with organizations that are dealing with in-fighting, and most often involving leadership. Francisco Molina Garcia Plaza, Ph.D. 09, was recently elected by Safeguard Iowa to their Board of Directors during the organization’s annual meeting in Des Moines, IA. Dr. Molina Garcia Plaza currently serves as Business Resiliency Officer of Transamerica. He completed his Ph.D. in information science with the dissertation “Application of discrete computer simulation modeling to evaluate business continuity plans” under the direction of Dr. Easwar Nyshadham, (Chair), Dr. James Cannady, and Dr. William Hafner. |

Robin Yap, M.S. ’03, is a Toronto-based coach and consultant specializing in developing and implementing Technology-to-Training Integration Strategies and Programs, Training Department Staff (Instructors, Instructional Designers, Training Manager) Standards of Practice and Competency Modeling, Next Generation Human Capital Development, and Certification Programs. He is also an adjunct professor at George Brown College teaching classes entitled “Trainer’s Toolkit for the Classroom of the 2010s” and “Fundamentals of Technical Training.” Robin coaches and consults internationally on developing blended learning courseware, programs and strategies, training department standards, and training staff certification and competency models.
