Dear NSU Alumni,
The NSU Alumni Association is now accepting nominations for the 2009 Distinguished Alumni Achievement Award. Every year, each school and center at NSU recognizes an outstanding alumnus who has achieved an outstanding record of distinction and accomplishment in his or her field or community. The awards are presented to each award winner by the dean of their prospective school or center during the University's premier event, the Celebration of Excellence. The 2009 Distinguished Alumni Achievement Awards will be presented at the 12th Annual Celebration of Excellence, Thursday, January 21, 2010.
To nominate an NSU alumnus or yourself for the Distinguished Alumni Achievement Award simply complete the form and return it along with a professional resume and any additional information you wish to include to: NSU, NSU Alumni Association, Attn Sara DuCuennois, 3301 College Avenue, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33314-7796. All nominations must be received by September 8, 2009.

Alumni Night at Men's Soccer Game Thursday, August 27th
The NSU Men's Soccer team opens its 2009 season with a home game versus national power Clayton State University on Thursday August 27th at 7pm. With a solid core of returners and a squad brimming with experience and enthusiasm, the team is excited about this year's potential.

Kenneth Christopher, D.P.A. '99, recently published a book, Port Security Management, by CRC Press in March 2009. He has also received an appointment as Assistant Dean for the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Park University in Parkville, MO, where he teaches in the Department of Criminal Justice.

Karina M. Cerda Collazo, J.D. '02, was named partner of Maltzman Foreman, a Miami-based litigation firm. Cerda Collazo's practice area focuses on admiralty and maritime law. She has defended clients in wrongful death lawsuits, maritime personal injury claims involving passengers and crew, longshoremen claims and all types of tort litigation and proceedings under the U.S. Limitation of Liability Act.

Larry Flegle, D.B.A. '03, has had a successful career as a DJ from the time he was fifteen years old. "Larry Vee", as he was known early on, left the airwaves for several years when he joined the Navy. Some years later Larry went on to become co-owner of WBTG-FM in Sheffield, Alabama. Dr. Flegle is now a college professor with fond memories of being part of the early days of Rock 'N Roll radio. He now runs AMU Internet Radio for American Military University where he is an Associate Professor.

Sharon Goodwin, D.M.D. '04, is now practicing her prosthodontic skills in London, England. It is very challenging, but she hopes to return to South Florida some day take her Florida Boards. Dr. Goodwin misses everyone at the CDM and holds much respect for the faculty. Long live NSU PG Pros! |

Julia Marshall, M.S. 09, lives in Guelph, ON Canada with her husband Dan, two cats, and a dog. Ms. Marshall works full time for Peel Children's Centre, a children’s mental health organization, in Mississauga, ON Canada as a clinical supervisor of their crisis response and centralized intake services. |

Michelle Montero, M.S. '00, was recently promoted from Director of Clinical Services to Chief of Clinical Services at Our Kids of Miami-Dade/Monroe, Inc., the local lead agency for child welfare in Miami and the Keys. Montero ensures that the day to day operations of the behavioral health, nurse case management and utilization management departments are efficient and effective, and that proper management of resources and the delivery of quality services are a priority and are integrated into the child welfare system of care.

Keith Robinson, Ed.D. '09, Although he unexpectedly lost his mother in the fall of 2002, Dr. Robinson continued on his path, working full-time in a court system, serving as an adjunct professor, and starting his doctoral program in the summer of 2005. At this same time, Dr. Robinson also lost his stepson in a tragic car accident. A year and half later, he lost his favorite aunt and a year later, his grandmother, who had a major impact on his life. Dr. Robinson persevered and is proud to have graduated this year. |

As a graduating RecPlex user, you are entitled to a continued 90 day grace period. This means your current privileges have been extended for 90 days after your last class/exam. (Being various NSU Graduations fall on separate occasions, your membership is not extended 90 days after your graduation date, only after your last class/exam.)
After your 90 days have expired, you can purchase an Alumni Membership to continue your work-outs! Alumni Memberships are $30/month. To sign up for an Alumni membership, please bring photo id, NSU Alumni membership card, and method of payment to the Membership Office at the RecPlex.
We now have a brand new Olympic size pool for your use (or continued use) and we are beginning Belly Dancing classes this fall semester.
