Terese Tye, M.A., ’03, National Board Certified Teacher (NBCT) will depart for Tokyo as a participant in the Japan Fulbright Memorial Fund (JFMF) Teacher Program. Mrs. Tye, from A.I. Root Middle School in Medina City, was selected from a national pool of over 1,700 applicants by a panel of 10 American and Japanese educators, politicians, and business professionals to earn this honor. This program allows distinguished primary and secondary school educators in the U.S. to travel to Japan for three weeks in an effort to promote greater intercultural understanding between the two nations.
Dr. Marilyn Banks, Ed.D. ’02 has published her second book, Conversation Skills II: Extending Conversations. This book is the follow up to Conversation Skills, which covers basic and essential communication skills for workers with developmental disabilities, and helps young people enjoy successful job experiences and more fulfilling and independent social lives.
Jose Luis Rodriguez, JD Class ‘98, assistant deputy director of the South Florida Water Management District, was appointed by Florida Governor Charlie Crist to serve as a Commissioner on the Florida Elections Committee, succeeding Claudia Thomas. His term begins May 19, 2008, and ends December 31, 2011.
Larry V Flegle, D.B.A ’03, has been nominated and selected to receive the Wagner Leadership Award from the Distance Learning Administration Association for leadership in distance education. This is the association’s top annual award. It will be presented at their conference at Jekyll Island, Georgia, June 22nd. He will be accepting as a Kaplan University School of Business Professor. The Distance Education Leadership Award goes to the individual who has embraced and significantly impacted distance education and distance learning practices. This individual is responsible for the growth of distance learning programs, has exemplified activities that have contributed to better understanding of distance education practices, and has participated in research involving distance education.
Christopher M. "Chris" Neilson, J.D. ’83, was installed as President of the Broward County Bar Association at the Annual Dinner Meeting at the Marriott Harbor Beach Hotel on June 12, 2008. Alan R. Peslak, Ph.D. ’01, has attained tenure at Penn State Worthington Scranton. Peslak is assistant professor of information sciences and technology at the school. Peslak began teaching at Worthington Scranton in August 2002. Penn State University awards tenure and promotion on the basis of academic and professional merit, not for years of service. Kevin P. Crosby, J.D. ’86, a Partner in the law firm of Brinkley, Morgan, Solomon, Tatum, Stanley, Lunny & Crosby, LLP, was one of only eighty attorneys throughout the state of Florida to qualify for Board Certification in the area of Intellectual Property. Currently, there are only eight attorneys in Broward County who are Board Certified in Intellectual Property.
