The Eastern New York Alumni Chapter’s Spring Luncheon
The Eastern New York Alumni Chapter held its spring meeting on Saturday, March 29 at the Wyndham Airport Hotel. Dr. Kathy Corbett, chapter president, excitedly noted that there were many new faces at the event. These new faces belonged to recent NSU graduates who are eager, willing and ready to become active NSU alumni. Immediately following a delicious luncheon, Dr. Corbett introduced fellow alumnus Dr. Richard O’Connell who shared his journey from school counselor to book author. After retiring from a 40+-year career as a school counselor, Dr. O’Connell wrote a book, Motivating Kids to the Max, which is filled with the lessons he learned during his career in education. The New York State School Counselors Association recently named Dr. O’Connell’s book its outstanding book of the year. Dr. Evangeline Manjares, Chapter Treasurer, was presented with the Chapter’s 2008 Super Shark nomination award for her outstanding and continual support of all of the Chapter’s work.
The Eastern New York Alumni Chapter meeting was closed with Ladybird “Sunshine” Dena Robins, who performed a beautiful a cappella rendition of George Gershwin’s standard “Summertime.” What an incredible way to end an incredible meeting!
