A Day for Children- Sunday, September 16, 2007

NSU will host the 6th Annual A Day for Children, noon – 4:00 p.m., on Sept. 16 on NSU’s main campus. This free, fun-filled day focuses on health care, and social services, and is open to Broward County families and the NSU community. It will be held on the grounds in front of the Alvin Sherman Library. 

“A Day for Children” will feature FREE health care (including hearing, balance, vision, dental health, and medical screenings), social services and other resources to meet the behavioral needs of Broward County’s children, ages birth – 15 years. There will be representatives from NSU’s Colleges of Osteopathic Therapy, Dental Medicine, Pharmacy, Optometry, Allied Health and Nursing, the Center for Psychological Studies, Mailman Segal Institute for Early Childhood Studies, Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences, the departments of Dermatology, Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology, and the Institute for Children’s Services.

In addition to the health screenings, there will be a variety of activities for children, including a bounce house, story book characters, supervised sports activities, games, and arts and crafts.

Participating organizations include:

  • Davie Police and Fire Departments who will provide fingerprinting, ID cards, free safety and installation demonstrations of child car seats;
  • League of Hearing who will be present with amplified phones,
  • Epilepsy Foundation who will distribute 100 bicycle helmets.
  • Continuous transportation will be available from the food court entrance at the Broward Mall.

This years’ event is hosted by the Chris Evert Children’s Hospital, BlueCross Blue Shield of Florida, WPBT Channel 2 and WPBT Kid Vision, Broward Family Life, KISS Country Radio, the Epilepsy Foundation, Broward County's One Community Partnership, the Rose & Alfred Miniaci Performing Arts Center, COSTCO, Florida Kid Care and the NSU Health Care Centers.
