It is with both sadness and anticipation that I inform you that I have accepted the Executive Director of Alumni Programs position at the University of Miami, an opportunity to further my current career goals and achieve growth within a new university.

It has been my genuine pleasure to work at Nova Southeastern University and to serve you, the alumni of the university. These last four years have been very rewarding for me. I have enjoyed meeting several of you at alumni events, establishing new benefits and services for you to enjoy, and communicating with you every month through the Alumni Association e-Newsletter.

As a graduate of NSU, I will still be connected to the university and look forward to continuing to see you at upcoming alumni events!

West Palm Beach Law Alumni Chapter Dinner - Thursday, October 11, 2007
Please join the West Palm Beach Law Alumni Chapter for a Dinner Panel on Ethics with Honerable Donald Middlebrooks, U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida, Honorable Fred Hazouri, Florida District Court of Appeal, Honorable Moses Baker, Jr., Circuit Court/Juvenile Division, and Honorable Nancy Perez, County Court.  The event will be held on Thursday, October 11, 2007 from 5:30-8:30 p.m. at the Marriott of West Palm Beach (near City Place), 1001 Okeechobee Blvd., West Palm Beach.

Campus-wide Open House- October 12 and 13, 2007
Invite Those You Know To Discover NSU
NSU is opening its doors for a campus-wide open house October 12 and 13. Invite family, friends and acquaintances to attend. Whether they are preparing to start college as first-time freshmen or seeking to advance their careers with a graduate degree, they will have an opportunity to meet faculty, staff, alumni and current students and get information on the many bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degree programs offered at our main campus and at NSU’s various locations throughout the U.S. and Caribbean.

Financial aid advisors and admissions counselors from every department will be on hand to answer all their questions. There will also be guided tours of NSU’s 300-acre Fort Lauderdale campus.

Business School’s Distinguished Lecture Series to Feature Marilyn J. Ounjian - Monday, October 15, 2007
The H. Wayne Huizenga School of Business and Entrepreneurship’s Distinguished Lecture Series continues on Oct. 15 at 10:30 a.m. with Marilyn J. Ounjian, founder and chief executive officer of CareersUSA. The lecture will take place in the Julian and Ellen Knight Lecture Hall (Room 1124) in the Carl DeSantis Building. College of Optometry Alumni Reception - Friday, October 26, 2007
Each year, the College of Optometry hosts a reception for its alumni at the American Academy of Optometry Annual Meeting. This year, the meeting is being held in Tampa, Florida at the Tampa Convention Center from October 24 - October 27. The alumni reception will be held on Friday evening, October 26 from7:00 pm - 8:30 pm on the 3rd Floor of the Tampa Marriott Waterside Hotel and Marina in Meeting Room 12. The College welcomes all alumni and their guests to attend.


The Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences’ Distinguished Speaker Series - Thursday, November 1, 2007
The Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences’ Division of Social and Behavioral Sciences presents Erin Brockovich at Nova Southeastern University. As part of the college’s Distinguished Speaker Series, Brockovich will speak on November 1, from 7:00–8:30 p.m. in the Miniaci Performing Arts Center. Admission is free. Members of the NSU community can pick up tickets starting Monday, October 22. Members of the public can pick up tickets starting Thursday, October 25.

42nd Annual Snowflake Gala Luncheon - Friday, November 2, 2007
The Mailman Segal Institute for Early Childhood Studies at Nova Southeastern University will honor the recipients of its 2007 Champions for Children Awards at its 42nd Annual Snowflake Gala Luncheon Nov. 2. Honorees include South Florida Regional Director for Autism Speaks Jaclyn Merens; Mailman Segal Institute Dean Emeritus Dr. Wendy Masi; Autism Speaks, the leading advocacy group for autism nationally; and the Miami Dolphins Foundation.

The honorees are individuals and organizations that have made vital contributions to the lives and futures of children within the South Florida community. The Snowflake Gala benefits programs for children with autism spectrum disorders - a complex brain disorder that strikes one in 150 children in the United States.

Tampa Bay Alumni Chapter - “Bowling for Bricks” on Saturday, November 17, 2007

Bowling for BricksTake a roll down memory lane with the Tampa Alumni Chapter on Saturday, November 17, 2007 from 2 pm to 4 pm. The event will be held at Splitsville, the premier bowling and dinner lounge in Tampa, located at 615 Channelside Drive, Tampa, FL 33602. Tickets are $10 per person and include a buffet, soft drinks, bowling, and bowling shoes. One dollar from every ticket sold will go towards the chapter’s purchase of an NSU commemorative brick outside the University Center on main campus. Eastern New York Alumni Chapter Fall Meeting
The Eastern New York Alumni Chapter held their Fall Meeting Saturday, September 29, 2007 at the Whyndam Garden Hotel.  Newly elected President Dr. Kathleen Corbett welcomed Alumni and presented immediate past President Dr. Kim Nesbitt with a gift from NSU in appreciation for her service and dedication to their chapter.  Dr. Nesbitt was the guest speaker discussing the topic "How to get your Book Published."   Her recently published book, ...And the Last Shall Be First was available to the members in attendance at the meeting.

Atlanta Alumni Chapter Business Networking Event
The NSU Atlanta Alumni Chapter would like to thank the 54 alumni who attended their recent Business Networking Event on Saturday, September 22, 2007.  The event was a huge success with alumni in attendance from several of the University’s schools and centers.  Members in attendance enjoyed the fun atmosphere at the Fox Sports Grill in Atlantic Station.  A good time was had by all and many networking contacts were made!  The members look forward to seeing you at their upcoming Atlanta Community Service event on Thursday, November 8, 2007.

Nova Southeastern University Alumna Appointed Assistant VP of Academic Affairs Berkeley College NY Campuses
Berkeley College Vice President of Administration Edward Imperiosi has announced the appointment of Beth Coyle (Ed.D. 2000), as the Assistant Vice President of Academic Affairs for the Berkeley College New York campuses in Midtown Manhattan and White Plains. Dr. Coyle will also be responsible for the Berkeley College Lower Manhattan Extension Center located at 30 Williams Street.

"Since joining Berkeley College in 2004, Beth Coyle has demonstrated her leadership abilities in two key positions, first as the Director of Business and Auxiliary Services and then as Garret Mountain Campus COO," said Mr. Imperiosi. "In both positions Dr. Coyle has worked collaboratively with Berkeley faculty, staff, and students, as well as members of the community. Berkeley College will continue to benefit from her straightforward, hands-on approach to problem solving and program enhancement."

Harry T. Fogle Selected to Serve as the State Superintendent’s Designee
The State Superintendent of Schools in Maryland selected Harry T. Fogle (Ed.D. 1985) to serve as the State Superintendent’s Designee to oversee a federal Court Order imposed upon the Baltimore City Public Schools. In this role he serves at the direction of the State Superintendent of Maryland Public Schools and the Federal Court Order of August 12, 2005 that gave the Maryland State Department of Education authority to oversee all aspects of special education and related services for students with disabilities in Baltimore City Public Schools. He directs and manages all aspects of special education service and the service delivery for all students with disabilities under The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). In Baltimore City Public Schools, this represents approximately 14,000 students with disabilities, a system total enrollment of 85,000 students and a 1.2 million dollar budget.

He leads a team of professionals appointed by the State through Federal Court authority to provide management and capacity building with Baltimore City Public Schools. The team is entitled the, Intensive Management and Capacity Improvement team (IMCIT). The role is to provide management, direction, staff training of over 3,000 staff and make decisions pertaining to finances, budgets, information technology, transportation and human resources.

Prior to his selection to this role, he was Assistant Superintendent of School management for the Carroll County Public School System, also in Maryland.

Continuing its valuable contribution to South Florida’s cultural life, NSU Theatre has announced its annual season, presenting the drama The Women of Lockerbie, the musical Cinderella, and its annual festival of one-act plays. We invite you to enjoy the quality productions this ambitious program offers in its new home at the Black Box Theatre in the University Arts Center on main campus. Performances of The Women of Lockerbie takes place November 9–17, 2007. The Performing Arts schedule also includes an NSU Music presentation, Peace: A Holiday Concert, and Muscle to Bone, Moving the Power Within, an NSU Dance performance.
