Women’s Health Conference- Saturday, May 19, 2007
The Wellness Mentors, LLC, with support from the College of Allied Health & Nursing at Nova Southeastern University present “Healthy Women – Healthy Lives” on Saturday, May 19, 2007, from 8 am – 4 pm. The event will take place at Nova Southeastern University, 3200 S. University Drive, Ft. Lauderdale, FL 33328 in the Terry Building - Hull Auditorium and North Atrium.
“Women’s health is a very important subject,” states Dr. Linda Gettinger-Dinner, Adjunct Nursing Professor at NSU and organizer of the event. “For years, we have identified men’s health and women’s health as being the same. We’re finding out now that women respond differently to therapies and medications and that the symptoms of even a heart attack can be very different for women, compared to men. It’s important that everyone know these differences.
The conference titled “Health Women–Healthy Lives” is a Health Conference and Expo, dedicated to educating women to make informed decisions about their health, well-being and personal safety, and to assist other women in finding a healthier path in life as well. The goal of the “Healthy Women –Healthy Lives” conference is to enhance the lives and welfare of women, and raise funds to support the Susan G. Komen for the Cure; in an effort to eradicate breast cancer in women. Laurie Stein from Channel 4 will be the keynote speaker. Dr. Linda sees the importance of educating nurses about different aspects of women’s health, and continues to say that nurses have the perfect opportunity to share up-to-date information with their patients, friends and family, that contributes significantly to helping other women live life in a healthier manner. A network of professional speakers will connect with the near all-women attendees, in a meaningful way. It is a very integrative approach to the management of women’s health issues. This unique opportunity to sponsor the First Annual Women’s Health Conference, to be held at Nova Southeastern University, runs parallel to honoring National Women’s Health Week, and it is this spirit of women, that will help to make changes occur in our personal lives, and in the lives of others.
