Women’s Soccer off to Solid Start After Shutout Over Webber International
The NSU women’s soccer team is off to a solid start after recording their second win in as many matches, with a 5-0 blanking of Webber International University on Monday night. The high-scoring Sharks have scored 11 goals in two games, while also being air-tight defensively allowing just one goal to the opposition.
Sharks forward Shurell Burton (So. Palm Bay, Fla.) scored 29 seconds into the match and Stephanie Quinones (So., Pembroke Pines, Fla.) registered a goal and an assist as Nova Southeastern (2-0-0) remained undefeated.
Burton corralled a loose ball and scored on a breakaway with 44:31 left to play in the first half for her fourth goal in two matches. It would be all the offense NSU would need as Nicole Paquette (Jr.
Seminole, Fla.) and Megan Kim (Fr., Valrico, Fla.) kept a clean sheet, combining for the Sharks first shutout of the season on two saves each.
Quinones scored NSU's third goal and assisted on the Sharks' fifth and final goal of the match, a shot that Lauren Huffman (So., Flower Mound, Texas) bent over the Warriors' keeper, Elisa Sohn, from 25 yards.
Kelly Diershow (Fr., Schaumburg, Ill.) and Alexis Hernandez (Fr., Miramar, Fla.) tallied the other two goals for NSU.
