NSU Softball Team Wins Second Consecutive Sunshine State Conference Series
The NSU softball team (20-24, 6-12 SSC) won an SSC series for the second consecutive weekend, as the Sharks took two of three from visiting Florida Tech in the final home games of the 2006 season last weekend at the A.D. Griffin Sports Complex.
NSU took Friday night’s game one encounter 4-3 and then earned a split of Saturday’s doubleheader for the series win.
Freshman Valen Eberhard (Fr., Haubstadt, Ind.) was a big reason for NSU success, as she batted .545 (6- for-11) for the weekend with a triple, 4 RBI and 4 runs scored.
RHP Shannon Lynch (Jr., Marietta, Ga.) was also a major contributor, as she picked up both of the wins over Tech, making an appearance in all three contests. During her two starts, Lynch tossed complete games and allowed seven runs (five earned) while striking out seven.
NSU heads to Winter Park, Fla. this weekend to face Rollins College in another SSC series. The series will open Friday night at 7:00 p.m. and continue with a Saturday doubleheader at 1:00 p.m. Rollins currently stands three games ahead of NSU in fifth-place in the league.
