Huizenga School hosts Siemens’ President and CEO George C. Nolen
The H. Wayne Huizenga School of Business & Entrepreneurship recently welcomed George C. Nolen, president and CEO of Siemens Corporation, as the guest for the Distinguished Lecture Series.
The Julian and Ellen Knight Lecture Hall was filled to capacity with students, faculty, and community leaders. Nolen’s presentation gave the audience a good understanding of why Siemens had worldwide sales of $96 billion in 2005 (with 460,000 people employed in 190 countries). The global technology and infrastructure company has its US corporate headquarters in New York City. Employing approximately 70,000 people, its US operations generated sales of $18.8 billion in 2005.
Nolen discussed topics such as: the company’s strategy for business opportunities, understanding culture, the need to evolve in a changing global marketplace, and the importance of developing trust. Furthering on the point of building trust, he stated that it is critical to establish good relationships with people, whether colleagues or suppliers—trust was key to one’s success and will determine future opportunities. Siemens’ scope and reach was made more apparent by Dr. George Hanbury’s announcement confirming a world-class technology partnership between Siemens and NSU. Nolen expanded on the partnership by saying Siemens’ goal was to bring technologies together, match visions; “This partnership will provide students and researchers with cutting-edge working environments and create an excellent setting to experience how Siemens’ innovations are changing the way people around the world live, work, and study.
Community guests included entrepreneur H. Wayne Huizenga, and Nolen’s colleagues: Ken Cornelius, president and CEO of Siemens One, Inc. and Vice President of Sales for Siemens Corporation, and Jon Trigg, director of the company’s Healthcare Division. The lecture was sponsored by BankAtlantic. |

Student-Athletes Garner Sunshine State Conference Player of the Week Honors
For the second consecutive week a pair of Nova Southeastern University student-athletes were named Sunshine State Conference Players of the Week for their respective sports on Tuesday, Feb. 14. Women's basketball player Eliza Allen (Fr., Hegenheim, France) and women's tennis player Alexa Korotkevich (So., St. Petersburg, Russia) each won the award for the first time in their careers.
Allen had a career week, as she averaged a double-double (12.0 pts., 11.5 reb.) and NSU (14-9, 7-5 SSC) won a pair of SSC games over Florida Southern and Eckerd. The Sharks freshman had a career-high 12 points and career- and game-high 14 rebounds to lead NSU against Southern. She also dished out seven assists in that game, narrowly missing out on a triple-double. Allen then matched her career-high with 12 points and grabbed nine boards against Eckerd on Saturday.
Korotkevich played number one singles and doubles, and worked to a perfect 4-0 start to her 2006 season. The sophomore posted straight set victories in both of her singles matches for the week, and was also victorious in two doubles matches with teammate Ulia Talalenko (Fr., Naples, Fla.) as the pair lost just three games. Korotkevich's performances in the top spot inspired her team to a 2-0 start to the season, as NSU did not drop a match against either Palm Beach Atlantic or Florida Southern.
NSU student-athletes have now garnered a total of 11 SSC Player of the Week awards in the 2005-06 year. |
