NSU Sweeps Sunshine State Conference Basketball Player of the Week Awards for First Time in Program History
Nova Southeastern University men's basketball player David Naylor (Fr., Melbourne, Australia) and women's basketball player Missy Guadagnino (Sr., Winter Springs, Fla.) were named Sunshine State Conference Men's and Women's Basketball Players of the Week this week. The double selection marks the first time in NSU Athletics history that the Sharks have swept the weekly conference player of the week awards.
Both Naylor and Guadagnino helped their teams to perfect 2-0 records this week, as the men's team (5-2) stretched its winning streak to four games while the women (6-3) have now won three straight. Naylor was the first NSU men's basketball player to earn SSC Player of the Week accolades, while Guadagnino was named SSC Player of the Week for the second consecutive week.
Naylor scored a career-high 21 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and blocked three shots as the Sharks rallied from a 20-point deficit to win 73-70 at Florida Gulf Coast University last Monday, as FGCU lost for only the fourth time ever at Alico Arena. In a 92-91 overtime win over North Alabama, Naylor matched career-highs with 21 points and 12 rebounds, while adding three steals. On the week, he committed just three turnovers in 65 minutes.
Guadagnino was also inspirational in leading the Lady Sharks to their two victories over Tiffin University and Kentucky Wesleyan College. Against Tiffin, Guadagnino recorded 16 points, seven assists and three rebounds, while against Kentucky Wesleyan, she added nine points, seven assists and six rebounds. The point guard committed just four turnovers in 64 minutes of play. |
