Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences to Sponsor A1A Marathon Health & Fitness Expo
The Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences will sponsor the Health & Fitness Expo of Ft. Lauderdale’s A1A Marathon. The A1A Marathon, Broward County’s first major marathon, will take runners through the seaside communities of Fort Lauderdale, Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, and Pompano Beach. As part of the marathon’s weekend of events, the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences will sponsor the free expo Saturday, February 18, 2006 from 9 a.m.–7 p.m. at the Broward County Convention Center.
The Health & Fitness Expo will feature an educational lecture series—focusing on strength training and nutrition—designed by Elizabeth Swann, Ph.D., director of the Athletic Training Education Program in the college’s Division of Math, Science, and Technology. NSU athletic training student volunteers will distribute race packets at the Expo and help with running other aspects of race check-in. During the marathon on Sunday February 19, student and faculty volunteers will man stations that provide runners with water, as well as hearty encouragement. Events like the A1A Marathon offer athletic training students more than just first-hand experience. They also offer opportunities for them to give back to their community.
