NSU Women’s Golf Team Finishes Tied for Second at Lady Falcon Invitational

The No. 5 Nova Southeastern University women's golf team finished tied for second at the Lady Falcon Invitational hosted by Daytona Beach Community College. The 36-hole event was played at the par-73 Riviera Country Club in Ormond Beach, Fla.

NSU totaled 618 (311-307) in its first event of the 2005-06 season, but finished 12-strokes behind No. 6 Lynn University who totaled 606 (305-301) to claim the title. No. 3 Florida Southern finished tied for second with NSU, as the Mocs shot 314-304.

Junior Sophie Friis ( Vejle, Denmark) led NSU, as she finished sixth overall (73-77=150) after sharing the first round lead with individual champion Elisabeth Whitehouse of Lynn. Whitehouse shot a 2-under-par 144 (73-71) to win the event.

NSU's Lina Bjorklund (So., Falun, Sweden) and Elizabeth Bond (So., Houston, Texas) were tied for 15th with 157's, while sophomore Jenni Mostrom ( Ljungsville, Sweden) was tied for 20th (83-75=158). Freshman Andrea Maldonado ( Heroinas, Bolivia) rounded out NSU's scores, as she finished tied for 26th with a 159 (80-79).

NSU's next event will be the Women's Intercollegiate at Baytree on Monday, October 10 in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
