Achievement Award. Every year Nova Southeastern University
recognizes an outstanding alumnus from each school and center
who has achieved an outstanding record of distinction and accomplishment
in his or her field. Awards will be presented by the Dean to
the respective award winner during the University’s premier
event, the Celebration of Excellence, on Thursday, January
26, 2006. To nominate someone, or yourself, for the Distinguished
Alumni Achievement Award simply complete

The Eastern
New York Alumni Chapter is reorganizing and planning their first
event. Mark your calendars for an Alumni Luncheon on October
8 th from 12:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the Villa Russo Catering

Powerful Presentations- Friday, October 14, 2005
One of the top requirements for professional advancement

16th Annual Intramural Golf Tournament-
Saturday, October 15, 2005
It’s not too late- you
can still sign up for the 16th Annual Intramural Golf Tournament! The
Office of Recreation and Wellness is proud to offer the University
community a chance to participate in a fun event and an opportunity
to help us raise money for the Breast Cancer Society. The
16th Annual Intramural Golf Tournament will be held at the Bonaventure
Country Club on October 15th (two-person best ball format).

$30 per participant (all proceeds for this event will go directly
to the Breast Cancer Society). Our sponsors have stepped-up
this year and donated some amazing prizes, including: an autographed
Jason Taylor football and photograph, Florida Panthers tickets (with

Chapter Wine Tasting- Sunday, October 16, 2005
The Ontario, Canada Alumni Chapter invites alumni to attend
a wine tasting and luncheon at beautiful Strewn Winery at 12:30pm.
The winery is located at Niagara on the Lake in Ontario and the
event will feature a wine tour and tasting before lunch. The event
will provide an opportunity for alumni to meet and share NSU experiences
and network with fellow NSU graduates in the area. Family is welcome

“Education Express IV”-
October 17-19, 2005
Nova Southeastern University’s
Fischler School of Education and Human Services will host the Education
Express IV Bus Tour. This year’s tour themed, “Setting
a Higher Standard” recognizes eight schools in the State
of Florida. The Bus Tour has three objectives: promote higher standards
for education, highlight best education practices and support communities
working to improve schools for all students.
The three-day tour will begin in Seminole County and end in
south Miami-Dade County. The eight schools visited along the
way will open their doors to community and business leaders,
legislators and education officials. The visits will showcase
locally initiated strategies for improving student achievement

Blues and Bubbly at the Bonaventure- Saturday, October
22, 2005
Mark your calendar to attend this year’s NSU Alumni
Homecoming Event: Blues and Bubbly at the Bonaventure. The event will
take place on October 22, 2005 from 6-9pm at the Bonaventure Resort
and Spa located in Weston, FL. Boogie the night away to the sounds
of the Bobby Nathan Band who will play live Blues music for us
all night. Dean Randolph A. Pohlman, Ph.D. of the H. Wayne Huizenga
School of Business and Entrepreneurship will be accompanying the
band with his musical talents. The night is sure to be wonderful
and everyone who attends will enjoy cocktails, appetizers and live

Judith Ortiz Cofer, to Speak at NSU- Wednesday, October
26, 2005
Judith Ortiz Cofer, an award-winning poet, essayist,
and fiction writer, will visit the main campus of Nova Southeastern
University. Cofer will read from her work and give a talk from
7:00-8:30 p.m. in the Knight Auditorium of the DeSantis Building.
The event is free and open to the public.

Business Law for Managers- October 27-28, 2005
This
two day seminar covers a wide variety of the essentials of business
law by way of interactive PowerPoint lectures, CD-ROM trials, Videos
and Newsclips and group participation activities. This program

New Jersey Alumni Chapter Scholarship Luncheon- Thursday, October
27, 2005
The New Jersey Alumni Chapter is hosting the annual
Alumni Luncheon honoring the Dr. Cheryl Metrey Memorial Scholarship
Winners. This years' recipients are Joanne Acerba and Jacqueline
Lewis. The luncheon will be held at 12:00 p.m. at Angelo's Restaurant
in Atlantic City and will feature family style Italian cuisine. Cost

NSU vs. University of Miami Basketball
Game and Pre-Game Party- Saturday, November 5, 2005 The
NSU Basketball Team kicks off the 2005 Season by playing the University
of Miami on their home court in Coconut Grove at the Convocation
Center. Plan to join your fellow NSU alumni and friends for
a Pre-game party at Café Tu Tu Tango at the CoCoWalk Entertainment Village.
Then enjoy sitting and cheering on NSU in our own section at
the arena. The pre-game party begins at 4:00pm and will go
until 6:30pm. All attendees need to park in the garage near
CoCoWalk and then a bus will take us from there to the game
and back. Game time is 7:30pm. Cost is $15/person and includes
ticket to the game, drinks and appetizers at Café Tu
Tu Tango and transportation to and from the pre-game party

The NSU Department of
Athletics presents the First Annual Stars on the Diamond Celebrity
Softball Game at 6:00 p.m. Come watch professional athletes
play baseball alongside local TV/Radio celebrities – it’s
sure to be a night of laughs and fun! The game will be held on
campus at the NSU baseball complex. Event attendees can enter a

Dr. Vonn Murray, Ed.D. 1999 Plays
an Active School in Schools Success
Dr. Vonn Murray,
the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction at
Bruceville-Eddy ISD, and past high school principal at Bruceville-Eddy
High School 1991-2005 is proud to announce that Bruceville-Eddy
High School was one of four high schools in Texas to be awarded
the No Child Left Behind-National Blue Ribbon Award for 2005.
The new No Child Left Behind—Blue Ribbon Schools
Program recognizes outstanding public and private schools that
are either academically superior in their states or that demonstrate
dramatic and consistent gains in student achievement.

Dr. John Laski, DBA 2003
Developed an MBA Program at Nyack College
Dr. John Laski
recently developed and built an MBA Program at Nyack College. Now,
he is working to develop and build a new program for the School
of Professional Studies at New Jersey City University. Laski was
named in Who's Who in America, for another year, in 2006 edition.
He is proud to announce that his first book, Shantytown, is due
out this year. |

Dr. Michael P. West, Ed.D. 1987 Named
Executive Director of UTA/Fort Worth Center
University
of Texas at Arlington President James Spaniolo has named Michael
P. West, Ed.D., executive director of the UTA/Fort
Worth Center. Dr. West had been serving as interim director
since January and assistant dean in the College of Business Administration
since 2002.
West will play a critical role in expanding UT Arlington’s
position in the Fort Worth area. UTA/Fort Worth, which has experienced
substantial growth in the past five years, offers upper-division
undergraduate courses as well as cohort master’s programs
in business, education, engineering, health-care administration
and social work. |
