N.K. “Trip” Tripathy, President and Chief Operating Officer, Macy’s Florida

Tuesday, May 3rd, 2005, the H Wayne Huizenga School of Business and Entrepreneurship hosted part one of its Distinguished Lecture Series featuring N.K. “Trip” Tripathy, President and Chief Operating Officer, Macy’s Florida. Students, alumni, faculty, staff, and special guests attended the lecture to hear Mr. Tripathy’s “Perspectives on the Changing Face of Retailing.”

Macy’s Florida is a division of Federated Department Stores Inc. based in Miami, Florida. Federated is one of the largest Department Store retailers in the United States with 2004 sales of $15.6 Billion and operates nationally under the Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s brand names.

Mr. Tripathy’s business experience spans a variety of markets, functions and industries. He has worked in consulting, consumer products and retailing. Prior to joining Federated & Macy’s Florida in 2002, Trip was the Chief Financial Officer of The Limited, a division of Limited Brands Inc. His past experience also includes 11 years with PepsiCo Inc. (at Frito-Lay, Pepsi-Cola and Corporate) in financial, operating, business development & strategic planning roles and three years with Price Waterhouse in their management consulting practice. In the course of his career, he has worked on international M&A projects and business development in Europe, Asia, Australia, the Middle East and Mexico. Mr. Tripathy also spent three years in Cairo, Egypt as CFO of Frito-Lay Egypt. In other operating roles he has led business integration initiatives, cost and process restructuring efforts, and built highly effective finance and executive teams. His business philosophy is centered on driving a vision supported by clear priorities, strong values, teamwork, and outstanding execution.

Mr. Tripathy serves on the Executive Committee and the Board of Directors of The Beacon Council, Miami and is a member of the Dean’s Council at the College of Business Administration, Florida International University.

Mr. Tripathy received a Bachelor of Business Degree from St. Xavier’s College, Calcutta University, India and a Master's Degree in Business Administration from Texas Christian University, Fort Worth, Texas. He is also a Certified Public Accountant.
