NSU Launching a “NAME THE MASCOT/NICKNAME” Contest
Sponsored by the School Pride/School Spirit Task Force, NSU is launching a "Name the NSU Mascot/Nickname" Contest. Students, faculty, staff, administration, alumni, and friends of Nova Southeastern will get their chance to be part of history in the making. The contest runs from February 16th until April 1st. Participants may enter either online or at athletic contests and student activities events throughout the contest period.
“The University is changing what with the new University Center and the planning of additional residence halls”, stated Dr. Brad Williams, Dean of Student Affairs. According to Williams, student focus groups demonstrated very little attachment to the “Knight,” NSU's school mascot for 23-years. Moreover, in a recent survey, 40.5% of the student body was unable to even site the Knight as the school's nickname.
“I was surprised to learn that the Knight had never been officially adopted by NSU's trustees,” shared Williams. “This would appear to present a great opportunity to involve the entire NSU community and begin examining what we can and should be doing as a university to foster school pride and school spirit.”
It is anticipated a new nickname will be unveiled in Fall of 2005.
