Spring is in the air. You know what that means - Spring Break! As the students on campus prepare for their vacation, the Alumni Office is hard at work to continue offering you wonderful events, programs and benefits, like the NSU License Plate, access to the library and the Alumni Association e-Newsletter.

Spring is also the time for the Annual Fund phone-a-thon. If you have not already received a phone call from one of our bright students asking you to support Nova Southeastern University by contributing to scholarships for our students you should be getting a call soon. Heart Walk - Saturday, March 5, 2005
The event, which starts at 8:00 a.m., benefits the American Heart Association, the largest voluntary health organization working to prevent, defeat and treat heart disease, stroke and other cardiovascular diseases. The Heart Walk, which averages 5000 participants throughout South Florida, is an annual event coordinated to raise funds in an effort to increase awareness regarding the risks of heart disease. arrow More


Champagne and Wine Tasting Event - Monday, March 7, 2005
The Center for Continuing and Professional Studies is hosting a memorable event Monday, March 7 from 7-9 p.m. that will awaken your senses with samples of delicious wines and champagnes. With each glass served, participants will be offered tantalizing hor d'oeuvers to complement each wine or champagne being sampled. Learn your taste preferences, food pairing, and how to select wines and champagnes that suit you and the occasion. The cost of the event is $45.00. NSU to Host Brazilian Business Forum- March 10–11, 2005
NSU will host the “State-to-State, Business-to-Culture” program spearheaded by the Broward Center for the Performing Arts in Fort Lauderdale. The two-day Business Forum at Nova Southeastern University's Miniaci Performing Arts Center will take place on March 10 and 11. arrow More


NOVA SINGERS Spring 2005 Concert Series March - 11, 13, & 15
Nova Singers, of Nova Southeastern University, is pleased to present their 29th season spring concert series by joining with the Singing Lions Honor Choir of St. Mark's Episcopal School of Fort Lauderdale. This collaboration, along with Chamber Orchestra, will perform South Florida's premiere of John Rutter's most recent composition, Mass of the Children. Peggy Joyce Barber, Broward County 's accomplished choral director and the founder of Nova Singers, will conduct Rutter's work. Also, Dana Davis, the Director of Music at St. Mark's Episcopal School and the talented accompanist with Nova Singers for the group's 29 years, is the choral director of the honor choir which is composed of students in grades 3-8.

Literary Feast 2005- Saturday, March 12, 2005
Come one! Come all! Join our slate of fabulous authors at the Day of Literary Lectures for a daylong series of engaging panel discussions, lectures and book signings, held at Nova Southeastern University's Alvin Sherman Library, Research, and Information Technology Center, a joint-use facility with NSU and the Broward County Board of County Commissioners.  The event will be held from 10a.m.-3p.m.  For more information, please call the Literary Fest 2005 hotline at 954-357-5954.


MIBA Alumni Event in the Florida Everglades- Sunday, March 20, 2005
Please join the MIBA alumni chapter for their 2nd Year Anniversary celebration on Sunday, March 20! They will mark the beginning of their second year by exploring our own backyard with an airboat ride in the Florida Everglades followed by a picnic lunch.

The cost for this event is $15.00 for Chapter members and $20.00 for non-members. 20th Annual Scholarship Golf Classic- Friday, April 8, 2005
The annual Scholarship Golf Classic will be held at the Doral Golf Resort & Spa in Miami, FL. Broward County WALK F.A.R. for NAAR- Saturday, April 9, 2005
You are invited to attend the Broward County WALK F.A.R. for NAAR autism research walk, where thousands of people from Broward County touched by autism, including the families and friends of people with autism and other concerned local citizens will join together to raise funds for autism research. All proceeds from the event benefit the National Alliance for Autism Research (NAAR), whose primary mission is to fund and accelerate biomedical research that seeks to find the causes, prevention, treatment and, ultimately, a cure for autism spectrum disorders.  The event takes place at 9 a.m. at Nova Southeastern University 's Alvin Sherman Library, off University Drive and SW 30th Street.


First Ever Maryland/DC Alumni Chapter Event - Monday, April 18, 2005
Join us for an alumni social at Morton's Steak House at 300 S. Charles St. Baltimore, MD at 6:00 p.m. for food, fun and information on our newest NSU alumni chapter! This event is scheduled around the National Association of Elementary School Principals 84th Annual Convention & Exposition that is being held in Baltimore, MD April 15-19. 6th Annual Student Life Achievement Awards - Tuesday, April 19th, 2005
Student Affairs will host the 6th Annual Student Life Achievement Awards. This annual awards celebration (Also known on campus as the Stuey's) honors NSU best in scholarship, service, leadership, integrity, involvement, commitment and responsibility. The event will be held in the Rose and Alfred Miniaci Auditorium. The Red Carpet Walkway opens at 5:00 p.m. and the Awards Ceremony starts at 6:15 p.m.

College of Optometry's 3rd Annual Alumni Reunion - Saturday, May 21, 2005
The College of Optometry's 3rd Annual Alumni Reunion will be held Saturday, May 21, 2005, during the weekend of the 9th Annual Clinical Eye Care Conference and Alumni Weekend, May 20-22. This year, the dinner reception will be hosted at the fabulous, new Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino. We encourage you to reserve your room early in order to secure NSU's discounted, corporate room rate, $109.00 Sunday through Thursday, and $139.00 Saturday and Sunday. The Reunion is open to all alumni, honoring the class of 1995. All continuing education courses for the class of 1995 will be complimentary, as well as the alumni dinner reception for both 1995 graduates and their spouses. Reduced rates for CE are available for all other NSU alumni. The cost for the dinner reception is $25.00 per person.

This year's CE program will offer 19 hours of continuing education, with five hours of Florida required courses in Jurisprudence, Medical Errors, and HIV/AIDS, as well as eight hours of transcript quality. In addition, a new practice management series has been added. Please save these dates and plan to join us to celebrate our alumni while learning in our state-of-the-art facilities. Women's Basketball Earns First Ever Regional Ranking At NCAA Level
The NSU women's basketball team (16-9, 11-3) earned a regional ranking for the first time in program history when it was ranked No. 9 in the NCAA South Region.

Last month was historic in many ways for NSU, in addition to the regional ranking, the Lady Knights set a new program record for most victories in a season with its 15th win against Eckerd.  The record was extended on when NSU defeated Lynn 53-52, remaining tied for first in the Sunshine State Conference with two games remaining in the regular season.
