H. Wayne Huizenga
Featured in Huizenga School’s Distinguished Lecture
Series
Business
mogul and community leader H. Wayne Huizenga was
a featured speaker at the H. Wayne Huizenga School of
Business and Entrepreneurship’s Distinguished
Lecture Series on May 11, 2005.
The
lecture, sponsored by BankAtlantic, drew more than 450
people to the DeSantis Building Atrium. In attendance
were NSU students, faculty, staff, and others, including
students from Dillard High School Junior Achievement. Community leaders in attendance included
Joe Amaturo, Jack Abdo, Alan Levan, Albert Miniaci, Tony Segreto,
August Urbanek, Tom Miller, and Steve Shelton. Huizenga
spoke on the intricacies of his businesses, from Republic
Services, AutoNation, Blockbuster to Marlins, Panthers
and Dolphins. His reoccurring
advice: work hard and surround yourself with good people. As
expected, there were elements of true entrepreneurial
spirit in his stories, noting at one point, “If
we had done the market research, we wouldn’t have gone
into the business”—a reiteration to students and
budding entrepreneurs to “do your homework.” The
Huizenga School hosted a breakfast in his honor; more than
100 guests attended
