Oceanographic Center Alumnus is Founder and Chief Scientist of Ocean Boy Farms
As Founder and Chief Scientist for Ocean Boy Farms, David McMahon
is responsible for all scientific protocols in developing environmentally
and socially safe sustainable, organic marine white shrimp.
Ocean Boy produces all of the USDA certified organic shrimp in
America and is the largest commercially viable USDA Certified Organic
producer of shrimp in the United States.
In addition, Mr. McMahon is President and Chief Scientist of the
National Marine Medicines Research Institute, President and Chief
Scientist of the Diabetes Research Initiative, and President of
Gecko Films, a company that produces family films within the marine
environment.
He graduated with a dual master of Science
Degree in Marine Biology and Coastal Zone Management and recently
defended his Ph.D. dissertation, which will complete Mr. McMahon's
Ph.D. in Oceanography / Marine Biology from Nova Southeastern
University’s Oceanographic
Center.
He has been issued several United States Patents in the field
of science and is currently serving his second two-year term as
an elected member of the Board of Directors of the Florida Aquaculture
Association.
He has been honored by the Bahamian Government
for cultural and cinematic development, is the recipient of the
Republican National Committee’s Gold Medal Award for business leaders, and as
a Ph.D. candidate at NSU, Mr. McMahon received the World Aquaculture
Society’s award for Best Scientific poster in Beijing, China.
His future goals are to develop a bio technical research center
at NSU, to produce a cholesterol free organic shrimp, and to develop
a cure for juvenile diabetes.
David McMahon is this year’s distinguished
alumni award winner for the Oceanographic Center.
