Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences photo exhibit captures Caribbean environment of St. Lucia; Afternoon of music and dance, grand opening exhibit at the Alvin Sherman Library, Thursday, April 14, 2005
An exhibit of more than 100 photographs of
the Caribbean island of St. Lucia goes on display in the Alvin
Sherman Library, Research, and Information Technology Center atrium
April 14–June 1. The exhibit will open with an April 14th afternoon
celebration of Quadrille music and dance, followed by remarks on
sustainable tourism by a St. Lucian government minister. The images
in the exhibit, “Expeditions 2005,” were taken by students and
photographers who traveled to St. Lucia on eco-tours organized
by Dr. Barry Barker, environmental science/studies professor in
the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences Division of Math, Science,
and Technology. The participating students were part of a special
topics geography course. Their goal was not only to document St.
Lucia’s environment, culture, and history through photographs,
but also to acquire hands-on experience in applying sustainable
solutions to ecological problems. “Expeditions 2005” is the 6th
annual photographic project organized by the Farquhar College of
Arts and Science. In past years, expeditions have traveled to Chile,
Costa Rica, Malaysia, East Africa and China.
